In the end, my WP2 paper I was super satisfied with! I started with was probably my worst first draft I have ever written and almost completely modified it for the better. What I was happiest with was my introduction and conclusion in which I was able to use a little bit of my own voice to introduce the topic. I also liked the transition in tone that I began to use as soon as I began comparing and contrasting each of the articles!
The comment that I found to be more helpful was to decide on one set structure that I could carry when analyzing the articles. I interpreted that as choose one thing to compare and then analyze it in all three using a larger amount of paragraphs (second piece of advice). Overall, however, I as I read other people’s papers got some ideas of what conventions i could use for my paper.
I feel you about it being the worst draft you have ever written. At first I thought there was no way I was going to be able to come up with a cohesive paper or a decent thesis but we both survived! Yay! I also got the advice that I should include more paragraphs and at first I didnt think I was going to be able to break it up but I found a way. I guess it just shows this class is pushing us out of our writing comfort zones in the way it’s designed to.
ReplyDeleteReally happy that you are proud of the outcome of your WP2. :) I think that it's really important that you feel an improvement throughout this course. I know I definitely feel one. I think peer comments really helped more than the last time, just because I think we knew more of how to read like a writer. I also believe we weren't afraid to be slightly more critical with each other. It's all a part of the learning process, which I really love about this course. I hope you love it too.
ReplyDeleteDude, every first draft I write is worst than the last so I completely agree with you that this one was especially bad. I gotta agree with you on the fact that adding a little bit of my own personal voice felt really good and made the writing more enjoyable. Structure is super important, and that comment was probably huge for you in your final draft. I also agree that reading other people's works helps improve your own.
ReplyDeleteI benefited from the comments about structure too! I changes the amount of paragraphs my paper had, making them greater in number, and it made my paper more organized and flow better. I like how you talked about your tone here too. I didn't even think about that when asking myself what went well?. Now that I think about it, I was happy with my tone too, and included my own voice to give the reader a sense of self. I totally feel you on that brotha!
ReplyDeleteI am super happy that you are satisfied with your introduction and conclusion because I found that to be one of the most complicated parts of writing my essay. The advice to choose one thing to analyze is something I did not even think of doing, but I can understand how it makes comparing and contrasting way easier. I assume when you say “larger amount of paragraphs” you are saying that you are using multiple smaller paragraphs?
